探险（一）

The serenity of the shaded picnic area at the beach was interrupted by my trusty canine's 'woof' of excitement as he wagged his tail cheekily. Reaching out to give my dog, Paws, a delicious treat, I patted him dotingly. It was the middle of the long-awaited school holidays and my family had decided to go to Merry View for a fortnight.

Frolicking in the warm sand, my brother, Ben, and I wolfed down a sumptuous meal to play a game of "Catch" with Paws. Our parents had left us to our own devices as we engaged in childish tomfoolery. Families were relaxing over an array of succulent fruits while taking in the vista of clear waters. The laughter and feverish shrieks of children filled the, air as I heard the rustling of palm tree leaves swaying in the afternoon breeze. Elated at the prospect of spending a whole day of leisure at the beach, Ben and I were intrepid and eager to explore the tropical forest behind the shoreline. "Don't get too far!" my father warned.
